On the Instructional Technology (ELA tech standards) website, I focused on the high school grade levels. Both the 9th-10th and 11th-12th grade standards expressed the need for students to understand many media platforms and how to utilize them in the classroom setting. I feel prepared to teach my students how to responsibly use the internet, respond digitally to texts, and create documents or presentations on platforms such as word, powerpoint, and more.
In the CPALMS Educator Toolkit for the high school level, I found the area I would most like to teach in the English Language Development section. This section listed five tools aimed at helping English Language learners "communicate information, ideas and concepts necessary for academic success" in the languages of mathematics, language arts, science, social studies, and social and instructional purposes. The English Language Arts section offered more resources such as grammatical help, like proper punctuation, and literature assistance, like analysis.
For these resources, I would have my students access the internet if their own knowledge and learning fell short. Past the internet, they would use computer platforms such as word to type up their thoughts.
Working on the Newsletter Design, I learned new things such as how to create word art and columns on a document, which I had never done before. I did not figure out how to insert a border, but I have learned since and will next time. I will definitely need to use certain features from the Newsletter Design again in the future when I am a teacher, so the assignment was not a waste of time. In fact, it taught me useful tools that will probably be used before I begin my teaching career.

Love your problem-solving process. I believe once you figure out how to accomplish something on your own, you will remember it much better than simply watching someone's demo.
ReplyDeleteBTW, you cannot insert a URL like this to embed your newsletter. This is a local link to your computer but other people on the Internet cannot access.
